I spent a lot of the waning warm weather months in the many towns, small and otherwise, east of Columbus; Zanesville, Newark, Somerset, Lancaster. As a result, I spent a lot of time driving through hilly farm areas, green and gold with trees & crops; the songs that I was listening to at the time remind me strongly of those drives now, which were punctuated frequently with the sight of something worth pulling over to shoot.
One of these songs is The Puppini Sisters'
Wuthering Heights -- a close harmony treatment of Kate Bush's classic crazy woman song. I know it by heart now, and find the cognitive dissonance of their sweet, harmonious voices singing "let me have it/let me grab your soul away," etc., amusing.
Another fun Puppini song (not on their cd "Betcha Bottom Dollar") is
Seafood Mama. "FISH FISH FISH FISH
FISH!" Fun stuff.
That wraps it up for the new music I loved this year -- the rest of my best of 2006 are older songs that gave shape to my year.
