Best of 2006, Pt. 5

I spent a lot of the waning warm weather months in the many towns, small and otherwise, east of Columbus; Zanesville, Newark, Somerset, Lancaster. As a result, I spent a lot of time driving through hilly farm areas, green and gold with trees & crops; the songs that I was listening to at the time remind me strongly of those drives now, which were punctuated frequently with the sight of something worth pulling over to shoot.

One of these songs is The Puppini Sisters' Wuthering Heights -- a close harmony treatment of Kate Bush's classic crazy woman song. I know it by heart now, and find the cognitive dissonance of their sweet, harmonious voices singing "let me have it/let me grab your soul away," etc., amusing.

Another fun Puppini song (not on their cd "Betcha Bottom Dollar") is Seafood Mama. "FISH FISH FISH FISH FISH!" Fun stuff.

That wraps it up for the new music I loved this year -- the rest of my best of 2006 are older songs that gave shape to my year.

That cover of Wuthering Heights has to be the catchiest version of a song about a love-crazed ghost ever recorded. Where do you find these things?

Thanks for letting me know you were here, and merry Christmas, gadjoboy!

Greg, that song is about a ghost? I was never a Kate Bush fan, so this is my first encounter with it. I just thought the narrator was a crazy stalker type.

It is an earworm, isn't it? Let's see, I found the Sisters on an mp3 blog, but I can't remember which one. Might have been Copy, Right but they appear to be down right now.

Yep, apparently it's the ghost of Catherine that comes back to haunt Heathcliff after she dies giving birth, Catherine. Those Bronte sisters sure knew how to name characters.

Kate Bush is kind of an acquired taste, it's true (although Hounds of Love is one of "those" albums for me). Still, the video for Wuthering Heights (both the outdoor and studio versions) has to be seen to be believed.

Looking forward to more pictures and songs next year...Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Dane!

I've seen the videos now, and believe even less. WOW. She's beautiful, talented, creative, a great singer ... and a smidge round the bend.

God, interpretive dance cracks me up.

Music is posted for a short time, and while I use it in part to (hopefully, though not always) go along with the theme of the photo, I also post it in hopes someone will give it a try and fall in love with it as I have. Perhaps they will then seek out more by the artist and buy more cds. That's how it works with me, anyway. If you like it, pick it up at the store; support the artists you love.
