... that weren't released in 2006.
Selections from the cds I made to take on my nine hour road trip this summer, each of which was a new obsession this year:
Thunderclap Newman - Something In The AirSomething about its quiet intensity makes it the perfect song with which to kick off a road trip at 5 a.m.
Les Miserables, London Cast - Master of the HouseSomeone did a remarkable Deep Space Nine fan video to this and it got me hooked on the song.
Van Morrison - Jackie Wilson Said (I'm In Heaven When You Smile) Dexy's Midnight Runners - Jackie Wilson Said (I'm In Heaven When You Smile) Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On EileenSave Ferris - Come On EileenI call the above set of four "the circle of life."
Finally for today, there is the song that functioned as the gateway drug to one of my new favorite artists. A friend of mine offered it for download with the comment, "it's the song they play during the heist in the Thomas Crown remake." As that is one of my favorite movies, I knew immediately which one she meant, downloaded it, and fell in love.
It's partly the clapping. It's partly the piano. It's partly that the song, like the movie, has a certain stylish elan.
Nina Simone - Sinnerman
