Mourning

This one is actually creepier in long shot, and especially from behind, with those big holes in her back. Those shots are up at Flickr.

Donovan - Season of the Witch

Lou Rawls (yes that's right) - Season of the Witch

And this has nothing to do with Halloween, but I just got back from a great show and the thing that makes it even vaguely relevant here is that it was such a treat for the ears, and the eyes provided it. You see, I won my ticket to the show through a photography contest sponsored by the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts; and the fun of it is that I spent the show sitting directly under the subject of my winning shot.

So let me share a little something from the groups that performed:

Blind Boys of Alabama - Take My Hand

and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band (who really blew me away) - Bourbon Street Parade

Donovan - Season of the Witch
Possibly my favorite song that could be called a Halloween song. It's gentle and mysterious and the very soul of autumn.

Music - Lou Rawls, Season of the Witch

Ok, I promise I'll post the Donovan version later this month, but I came into possession of this Lou Rawls version and had to share it.

Donovan's is a comfortably, waftily, autumnally eerie classic. Lou's is ... unique. It should be heard at least once.

  • Disclaimer:

Music is posted for a short time, and while I use it in part to (hopefully, though not always) go along with the theme of the photo, I also post it in hopes someone will give it a try and fall in love with it as I have. Perhaps they will then seek out more by the artist and buy more cds. That's how it works with me, anyway. If you like it, pick it up at the store; support the artists you love.
